We are Ali and Alison Walker. We met in 2004, married in 2006, reached financial independence in 2017, and retired in 2018. The first thing we did after reaching FIRE (financial independence retire early) was to create a complete and total change from our career-focused lives. In November 2018 we left our Seattle life behind and made travel our new lifestyle. We enjoyed traveling full time and getting to know people in other places for two years. Then COVID-19 changed the world so we changed direction again. We decided to create a new home base for ourselves in Flagstaff Arizona near family. As of February 2021 we will be adjusting to a new post-FIRE routine that includes owning a home along with traveling internationally and within the USA as well.

I started We Want Guac after years of itching to share my own experiences. The name itself comes from getting the “extra” in life without feeling guilty about it or like you can’t afford it – the guac at Chipotle being the premier example. I focus on showing people in their early 20s how to get started on the climb to wealth; whether you’re debt-free or have loads of loans, whether you’re a newbie or a little advanced, it doesn’t matter. We’re out to get you to understand everything related to finance: budgeting, investing, income growth, adjusted mindsets, and overarching societal impacts are all discussed at length.

This blog centers around my experiences abroad, and my journey to a simpler life with financial freedom. It documents stories from my days in the Peace Corps, grad school, 5 years of corporate grind in Shanghai, our one-year stint in Saigon, and of course, all the wandering in between. I write, to pay-it-forward, and I hope you find these stories amusing and the resources useful.

Hi I’m Melody, and I’m on a mission to feel good about what my money can do for me and the world around me. My story isn’t “how I paid off $100,000 of debt” or “how I saved $100,000 by age 25”. It’s a slightly less impressive one, but I don’t think it’s any less important to share. My story is about a woman who decided in her late 30’s to learn how to put her money to work. And during the process, she got so freaking excited about how it felt that she started a blog in April of 2019 in hopes she could help others feel the same way.
