The name “The Fioneers” comes from a combination of: Financial Independence (FI) + Pioneers. We think the name fits well with our deep-rooted love of adventure. It’s also a constant reminder to enjoy the journey. Our motto at the Fioneers is: "The journey should be remarkable as the destination."

Albert Einstein once said, “If you can’t explain it to six-year-old, you don’t understand it yourself.” The main reason I started this website is to try to explain the complexities of the various aspects of finance in a way that everyone could understand them. Both the economy and the financial markets are complex adaptive systems, but I’ve never found complex problems require complex solutions. Common sense and self-awareness are extremely underrated attributes in the world of finance.

Conventional financial independence wisdom says that leaving a big city is the best way to accelerate your FI progress. But where does that leave the folks who love living in cities? What about those who need to live in one for work or family reasons? Are we all screwed? I believe that living in cities has pushed me toward FI rather than slowing my progress. That’s why I started writing CityFrugal back in 2018.

Financial Mechanic brings to mind tinkering with money and learning how to use money as a tool. I wanted to write about my own financial journey to help others hone their own. I hope that by sharing my story, there is one more example for people to use as inspiration on their own financial journey.

I’m writing from the position of having already achieved wealth and financial independence, and I want to help you get there too. My intention is not to re-hash the basics of the FIRE lifestyle or journey. I like to focus on the behaviors and lifestyle factors that drive money decisions.

My tagline is to live a more purposeful life one cent at a time, and I think even after half a decade, that’s still my purpose. Though my blog is really about chronicling my own journey and holding myself accountable, I hope my message resonates with others, too. My husband and I are both teachers and we are new-ish parents, so I think our journey is pretty relatable.

Joe started Retire by 40 in 2010 to figure out how to retire early. He spent 16 years working in computer design and enjoyed the technical work immensely. However, the job became too stressful and Joe retired from his engineering career to become a stay-at-home dad/blogger at 38. Today, he blogs about financial independence, early retirement, investing, and living a frugal lifestyle.

I created this blog to enlighten, educate, and entertain fellow physicians and other people who may have similar circumstances (high-income, late start, educational debt, etc…). My aim is to help those who want to help themselves and share some unique insights from the perspective of a practicing physician. I hope to leave you informed and inspired to look at life a little differently than you might have before.

The goal of my work on Of Dollars And Data is to help you make better financial decisions using the best information available. Ultimately, I want you to live a smarter, richer life. Though the ideas presented on this blog won’t revolutionize finance, they will provide you with a different perspective on money that you can use in your everyday life. I am sure of this because of the hundreds of hours of research that went into the more than 200 posts currently published on this blog.

My mission is to help others reach financial independence, along with us (we aren’t there yet!), with finance tips and by promoting the type of lifestyle that being financially free can buy (RV life, travel, security, etc.). Partners in Fire isn’t just about the upper-middle class who has the same options that we do. It’s about all of society – and I want even the poorest among us to be able to achieve financial independence.

Over the arc of my life and career a shift started to happen where I realized that I was at the point where I could stop working for other people to get financial independence and start working for myself to achieve happiness. I couldn’t find a good manual for how to do this so I started doing a bunch of reading on my own and this site was born.

I came up with the name “A Purple Life” a little randomly. To me, “A Purple Life” means a slightly different life, a life that involves constant questioning instead of going with what you’re given. It’s doing what makes you happy even if that makes you stand out or seem weird to people. It’s following what’s in your heart no matter what.

My name is Q-FI (short for quiet financial independence). I am in my late thirties and on my path to financial independence with my wife and two dogs. We live in Southern California and try to spend as much time in the outdoors as we can. Thankfully for our zip code, we take advantage of this year-round – though we do pay a pretty penny for that privilege in the housing and cost of living categories.

Hey there, I’m Lawrence: a writer, illustrator, and storyteller. Life as a human is a weird experience, but one that I’m grateful to be a part of. And when you have a sense of gratitude for the peculiar, you get a little something called curiosity. This curiosity is the thread that weaves through all the illustrated posts I’ve created on this site. My goal is to take everything I’ve learned about the human condition, and condense it into a format that is clear, digestible, and memorable.

I'm Elyssa, a finance writer and proof that knowing better doesn’t mean doing better. See: my many failed attempts at following traditional financial advice. Get compassionately curious with me about the financial fears, beliefs, and behaviors that keep us stuck. Uncover daring dreams that motivate us to finally fix our finances. Hi I’m Melody, and I’m on a mission to feel good about what my money can do for me and the world around me. My story isn’t “how I paid off $100,000 of debt” or “how I saved $100,000 by age 25”. It’s a slightly less impressive one, but I don’t think it’s any less important to share. My story is about a woman who decided in her late 30’s to learn how to put her money to work. And during the process, she got so freaking excited about how it felt that she started a blog in April of 2019 in hopes she could help others feel the same way.

I simply share tips that have helped me amass a sizable net worth and you can pick and choose the most suitable for you. This site is a summary of 25 years of money management experience. I am not a financial adviser or money professional of any kind. I’m just a normal person who learned how to manage money by trial and error plus some study and focus. But the results speak for themselves. In those 25 years I have been able to accumulate a large net worth that has left me financially independent.

I have always been “into” personal finance but I really got inspired to start my blog after I was a period of extended unemployment. That experience really changed the way I viewed our relationship with money and the importance of accessible personal finance education. When I was unemployed, I found that a lot of the information and content that I was looking for wasn’t readily available. I didn’t feel that anybody was talking to me and who understood my situations and circumstances. So I decided to write it myself!

This blog is focused on saving money by being sensible, (and sometimes ridiculous), cooking delicious food for yourself, so you, too, can afford to live in paradise. Where ever that paradise may be for you. I was born and raised in Hawaii- a notoriously high cost of living area (HCOL), and had been trying to be able to move back home after years working in the Mainland. We achieved this by aggressive savings, conscious spending, and being more efficient. Do we spend money on useless crap? Of course! But we try to keep it to a minimum- and have fun making food, finding free things to do, and appreciating living in paradise.

We’re out to get you to understand everything related to finance: budgeting, investing, income growth, adjusted mindsets, and overarching societal impacts are all discussed at length.

I started writing my blog months before I finally published it on September 1, 2018. After discovering the FIRE movement, I read numerous blogs and loved them, but I couldn’t find any written by single woman. It seemed like everyone was married and/or worked in tech and that didn’t represent me. Even though I found my favorite blogs incredibly informative and so valuable, I knew others could identify with me and I wanted to write for them. The post here embodies my thoughts, feelings, and experiences around the time I started this blog. The responses I received assured me I was not alone in this struggle and that plenty more shared my thoughts and feelings.

Anthony has married his passions, investing and education. While teaching social studies full-time, he founded a registered investment advisory firm, where he constructed financial plans and oversaw $50 million in client assets. As a CFP, he has a vast knowledge of personal finance strategies; and, as an educator, he has a natural ability to explain complicated economic and financial concepts, put them into an historical context, and make the practical application of these concepts come to life. Prior to starting his teaching career, he worked in the financial industry, trading foreign currencies. He brings to Ritholtz Wealth Management an expertise of the inner workings of the 403b market. His goal is to build awareness of the conflicted advice and poor options in these plans, and ultimately bring about much-needed reform. His blog, A Teachable Moment, helps educate investors on how to protect their interests.

We are Ali and Alison Walker. We met in 2004, married in 2006, reached financial independence in 2017, and retired in 2018. The first thing we did after reaching FIRE (financial independence retire early) was to create a complete and total change from our career-focused lives. In November 2018 we left our Seattle life behind and made travel our new lifestyle. We enjoyed traveling full time and getting to know people in other places for two years. Then COVID-19 changed the world so we changed direction again. We decided to create a new home base for ourselves in Flagstaff Arizona near family. As of February 2021 we will be adjusting to a new post-FIRE routine that includes owning a home along with traveling internationally and within the USA as well.

Welcome to 20somethingfinance. I am the author, G.E. Miller. Long story short: I went from zero savings and significant debt after graduation, to saving over 85% of my income in just a few years. I am embracing every aspect of a financially responsible, engaged, environmentally-friendly, frugal lifestyle. And I’m chronicling my journey to financial independence on this site. Spoiler: utilizing the ideology and strategies that I write about on this site, I am now financially independent. 20somethingfinance is 11 years old and has become one of the most popular personal finance blogs in all the land. Also – don’t let the name of the blog scare you off. If you’re not in your 20’s, that’s OK. I no longer am either (but the blog is stuck with the name), and 50%+ of the readers here are over age 30 anyways. Learning and sharing knowledge of personal finance is ageless.

Hey there, I’m Joel. I’m 35 and live in Los Angeles. At first glance I’m just an average guy in every way… Average height, weight, looks, IQ, skills, etc. But there’s a few things I’ve been doing differently the past few years that have elevated my life to above average: Every day I’m learning to make better use of my time. I now get up at 5am every morning. Every day I’m learning to make better use of my money. I’m on a fast track to Financial Independence! Every day I get up at 5am and send a short positive message to friends, family, co-workers and strangers from the interweb.

My name is Merilin and I’m 23 years old 🙂 I am an imperfect zero waste advocate, passionate about sustainability, veganism, and living harmoniously with nature. Growing older, the idea of having a lower footprint on the planet was something that I really wanted to achieve. However, I never really thought about waste and plastic pollution. In 2015, I moved to Denmark, and I found about zero waste for the first time. It sounded very intimidating. I thought – no way that I can produce 0 trash or that little to collect it in a mason jar! Luckily, I was intrigued by living a more sustainable lifestyle, so I slowly started making simple changes.

In 2016 we retired early from our corporate jobs to live our dream of traveling. We renovated a few foreclosed homes, turned them into rental properties, and got rid of all our belongings. If things go according to plan, our diverse investments should keep us on the road indefinitely. Our travel is slow travel in hopes to get to know each country better and enjoy what it has to offer. In each country, we look for at least one volunteer opportunity. These opportunities allow us to give back a little, and they also give us more insight into each country and put us on the path of some pretty awesome people that we meet along the way. We embrace minimalism and travel with only our backpacks utilizing public transportation. We love the freedom to move when and where at the drop of a hat. Occasionally, as a break from traveling, we house sit. This allows us time to relax, enjoy a home and usually a few pets. We use that time to catch up on our online activities and sometimes binge-watch a series or two. This blog is about stories from our nomadic life. We hope that our stories provide insight into other cultures and encourage our readers to travel to new places.

I am late to the game on financial independence (FI) but have a rough five year plan. It’s rough since I’m not totally sure whether the next phase of my life will involve working full-time or not. More on that in a later post. My current full-time work is pension and investment advisory work. I advise companies on their pension plans and investment strategies. Does that make me qualified to talk about FI? You can judge that from the content you find here. I’m fascinated by the huge difference in philosophy and financial strategies between the FI community and the establishment of actuarial thought and institutional investing. In particular, I want to explore in this blog the intersection of these two worlds. Can one inform the other, or will they forever remain neighbors refusing to make eye contact and not sharing cups of sugar?

Hopefully Bible Money Matters can play a small part in helping you create your financial blueprint so that down the road you can give more, save more and live more! We’re a married couple living in Melbourne, Australia in our mid-30s with a toddler and a dog. Ms FireMum primarily writes on this blog. Both Mr FireDad and Ms FireMum work full time in corporate jobs. We don’t hate our jobs, but it would be nice to have the option to choose to work, instead of needing to work. Our parents taught us the importance of putting money away for a rainy day, and passive investing. In our minds we always thought that the reason we invested was to avoid being on the pension (which is a great safety net provided by the Australian Government, but really not enough to live on comfortably). So we started investing in property in our mid twenties with not much of a plan beyond thinking that we’d pay it off in 30 years, and that would allow us to retire comfortably at 60. Then I stumbled across the FIRE movement, and found out that some people were able to retire in their 30s. I thought that was impossible without winning the lottery or coming into a large inheritance, but the more I read about FIRE, and, the more hooked I became. Why target financial freedom at 60, when we could aim for 50? Or even 40?

Hello everyone, my name is Jared. There is a lot of emphasis online about retired at 30! Well I’m 31, and not retired. In fact, my goal has always been to have the option to retire by 45 from the time I started working. I have a wife, and two young boys. I know I am not going to retire in my early 30’s because I have a family to raise and bills to pay, but my goal of 45 is still in sight. This blog is to document my journey to finding financial independence while having dependents and offering tips and interesting ideas to you. I started with nothing, and have been working since I was 12. My first job was working teaching kids how to swim at the local swim club, from there I moved on to working in fast food, busing tables at a nice Italian restaurant, and eventually working as an apprentice electrician. I acquired my Journeyman Electrical License at the age of 22. Most recently I work in Construction Management overseeing the daily construction of various project types.

My name is Jennifer Beadles, and after stumbling around from job to job in my late teens and early twenties, I found my calling: real estate. At 21 years old, I had bought my first house, and a real estate developer hired me. I found myself learning the ropes of building new construction, hiring subcontractors, dealing with red tag notices and grumpy neighbors who didn’t want new houses blocking their view. While I loved the variety and constant challenge of finding solutions to complex issues in the development world, I wanted to do and learn more. So, in 2009, I officially ditched my 9-to-5 job and become a real estate agent specializing in working with investors. Since my goal was to achieve financial freedom through real estate investing, I figured what better way to earn a living than to help others achieve what I was setting out to achieve. Turns out working in and on your passion does pay off. I’ve sold more than $120M+ in real estate while buying rentals and building up my own passive income streams. In 2017, I decided I needed to help more than just the investors in my local market, so I started this blog and launched my own local Seattle meetup group called Addicted to ROI. Then an amazing thing happened. I started to connect with other like-minded investors and agents across the country and created a new opportunity: connecting investors with these hard-working, investment-savvy agents who not only like working with investors but also they really know how to find deals.

Today I am financially independent, I run a cool little company (PopUp Business School) with a team of 12, changing the way entrepreneurship is taught globally and I spend my time travelling around the world working with some of the coolest people. Life wasn't always this way! At school I was the shyest kid you could meet, I struggled talking to strangers, I was paralysed by fear approaching girls, making phone calls or anything else. My family went from wealthy to £millions in debt and we had to do car boot sales (yard sales) at the weekend to raise the money to buy food. So what changed? This is what I want to share with you and it is going to be in 3 main parts: entrepreneurship, financial independence, and making dreams come true.

I’m a Norwegian guy in my early 30’s. My interests are photography, nice whisky, watches, technology, but perhaps more on that later, because my biggest interest is finance and growth of money. Inspired by the book "Think and Grow Rich", by Napoleon Hill, I wrote down a money target a few years ago. This target I was able to reach and I am now defining my new goal. My investments are about to hit 2 million kroner (≈ $230,000) distributed in stocks, mutual funds, saving accounts and a few other investments. My next goal is to reach 6,5 million kroner (≈ $745,000) within the next 10 years.

We are Todd and Wendy Christensen (aka 50+ and 50-), an average couple on an extraordinary journey from mediocre finances to Financial Independence to Retire Early (FI/RE). As a couple, we don’t want to retire on Social Security and a limited IRA. We have committed to eliminating ALL our debt by our late 50s and early 60s while building passive income streams that will permit us to pursue a meaningful life outside the 8-5 workday.

I’m Lucy and this blog is all about my journey of digging out of debt in my 50s. My husband and I have done stupid with zeros for far too long and finally said we have had enough. Time to get serious, pay off our debt and build wealth for our future. A dime at a Time represents a beginning to an end…the end of our struggle with debt. While we may be starting later than most, we know we can do it….A Dime at a Time!

Hi there! glad to have you on my blog. I am a big fan of personal finance and I am looking forward to sharing everything I know as well as point you to a plethora of resources available at your disposal. Now, a little bit about me. I was born in Maracaibo, Venezuela in 1980 and I think that makes me a border line millennial with some behaviors from Generation X. I was raised by frugal parents who taught me the value of hard work and saving for the future.I truly believe my journey to FI started with the lessons my parents taught me when I was a kid. I can still remember my dad saying .. “son, when things are going great that is when you should be saving the most because you don’t know when things are going to go bad“. In the context of FI, I can say this has been one of the most important lessons in my life so thanks Dad! The journey continues but now I plan to bring others on my quest for achieving Financial Independence.

Welcome to A Way to Less! We are a professional couple in our late 20’s / early 30’s. We live in northern England, UK. Having been avid readers of various other FIRE/travel related blogs we wanted to document our own journey. Reading other blogs has taught us a lot and we see this as our opportunity to give back to the community! We currently work full time as a Chartered Engineer and a music teacher. Our interests include travel, food, sport, music, education and of course personal finance! It is very important to us that these interests are pursued alongside saving for FIRE. They must not be sacrificed along the way! We have reasonably paid professional careers and realise that this puts us in a much better position than many in society. However, we want to show that FIRE is possible while on much more ‘typical’ wages. In fact, we believe that no matter what your financial position, changes can be made in order to improve your outlook for the better.

To start with, let me tell you a little about myself. I am a mom to two boys and a daughter. My husband and I came to America in our twenties and together we have been blessed with opportunities. I came with 2 suit cases, $200, lots of wisdom, hope, vision and dreams. He also had 2 suit cases, although more money; $500 that he borrowed and had to pay back. Through this blog, I hope to grow and learn with you through my experiences, written literature, tried/true ideas and…maybe some experiments :-). I promise you no one will get in trouble 🙂 . I will share some of our parenting tips and ideas as we raise our kids and teach them how to make money work for them. Through this experiences, we can face the challenges that confront our generation, change the negative perspective about money, rewrite our stories and spread the message that financial liberty is for everyone. Come along and lets journey to ABUNDANCE with LITTLE.

I created the AccessibleInvestor.com because I am passionate about financial education. I began investing by playing stock market games when I was in grade school and have been investing, learning, and building wealth ever since. Now, I want to share my knowledge about personal finance and investing with others. Knowledge is powerful: I believe that many people can benefit from learning about the concepts of finance and investing to become wealthier and wiser, and ultimately better prepared to make good financial decisions. If you’re interested in learning more about investing and personal finance, and just taking control of your finances, I hope you’ll find this website useful. As always, feel free to contact me if you have any questions, I’m always happy to discuss investing and finances.

With over a decade of experience, I started out like most real estate investors investing in single-family homes. In the beginning, I found deals for other investors. After awhile, I started doing deals myself. Though, I found myself always working and was burnt out from being a landlord. So I dove into the wacky world of mobile home investing and here I am. It’s much more fun.

One of Afford Anything’s core philosophies is that you should experience adventure at every stage of life, rather than defer happiness until the end. You should enjoy mini-retirements throughout your life; treating work and life like an interval race. You should embark on your epic travels today, while — behind the scenes — you simultaneously lay the groundwork for a permanent escape.

My name is Bob Schless and I have been researching and trading stocks for over 10 years. I like to invest in companies that have taken a hit to the head in the stock market, and can be bought relatively cheap. I often see them as victims of near sighted-ness, or in an industry that doesn’t have a positive long term growth prospect. I find reasons why things aren’t as bad as they seem. I’m great with research, have a strong intuition, and use common sense to climb over the naysayers and invest in these companies at a great value. Come join me as I take the road less travelled by finding companies that are ready to make a comeback, while the public is predicting a knockout.
